Moisturizers act as a protective layer between your skin and the environment. Even though the skin produces its own oil, it is usually washed off during the cleansing process. So it is necessary to replenish this natural oil.

A moisturizer basically contains water and other ingredients that can attract and trap moisture on to your skin. It should
also contain skin-nourishing agents like emollients.
