Yoga is a scientific system that combines yoga postures, relaxation, breathing and meditation techniques with psychological, moral and ethical principles.
Through various combinations of practices determined by temperament and culture (personal preferences) the yogi undergoes a complete and harmonious development – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Yoga is not a religion. No one is ever told he or she must follow an exact path by only practising these postures or meditating in this particular way. The student is given suggestions but it is left to the individual to find a path that brings him or her harmony. There are a variety of yogic practices, try the various techniques and principles for yourself and find what works for you.

Ananda Yoga
A gentle style yoga that focuses on inner experience and is concerned with awakening subtle energies, particularly within the chakras. Ananda yoga uses asanas and pranayama to gain control over the subtle energies, bringing harmony to body, mind and the emotions
Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga yoga provides the practitioner with a thorough work out and is not for the faint hearted, or for the beginner. It helps to buld stamina, flexibility and strength
Bikram Yoga
The yogis work through a demanding series of 26 postures in a heated room. The series is designed to systematically work all muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, internal organs and glands and to encourage the release of toxins through sweating.
Desikachar method
Desikachar teaches in the Viniyoga style, harmonising sequences of postures with awareness of the breath. Classes usually include relaxation and meditation
Kripalu Yoga
This gentler style of yoga co-ordinates breath and movement and is practised in three stages.
Integral Yoga
This is a flexible combination of specific methods designed to develop every aspect of the individual, physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual, integrating the various branches of paths of yoga in order to bring about the complete and harmonious development. Integral Yoga was founded by Sri Swami Sachidananda of Divine Life Society.
Iyengar Yoga
Often taught as a quite physically demanding style, it emphasises precise body alighment and attention, or awareness, to detail. Sometimes this may mean spending a whole class going over one posture, or even an aspect of a posture.
Kundalini Yoga
This style can be very vigorous and taxing for the body, so make sure that you have an experienced and qualified teacher.
Power Yoga
This new style of yoga is similar to and based on Ashtanga Yoga

Yoga has been around for 5,000 years. Yoga therefore is considered therapeutic. It helps you become more aware of your body’s posture, alignment and patterns of movement. I discovered Yoga for life with instructor Kurt Johnsen on the veria satellite channel, he is amazing. I considered joining a class but you really don’t need too with him instructing you, Ive been doing Yoga for 2 years with this instructor and my whole body shape has changed, I am longer and leaner, a lot more tone, I would recommend Yoga for life to anyone who is really serious about getting into great shape physically and mentally.
